Back from Nepal and it was only a few days rest in London before Blake arrived from his European travels and we visiting London’s Winter Wonderland with my housemates and friends then jumped on a plane to Germany together. Two weeks traveling from Munich, northwards through Nuremberg, Dresden, Berlin and then finishing in Hamburg before I was back in London for Christmas and New Years.

Munich
Bavarian food and beer in German beer halls, BMW museum, Dachau Concentration Camp and cold weather was our introduction to Germany. All that and of course our first foray into German Christmas markets. Needless to say it was a brilliant time. Our last night was a blowout with friends we met in the hostel and we took the train to Nuremberg feeling a bit hungover and sorry for ourselves.

Nuremberg
The Fascination and Terror Museum, further educating us on the rise and fall of the Nazi Party and more Christmas Markets while we met up with Johannes, a German friend whom I lived with in Canada.

Dresden
Evenings were spent either drinking the best drink we found all across Germany, a white hot chocolate at the markets or battling it out at checkers in the hostel. A day was spent hiking Bastei Bridge which was stunning and another exploring the city.

Berlin
The Berlin Wall, walking tours of the city, learning its history while it was freeeezing cold, The holocaust memorial, the Brandenburg Gate, good food, and exploring the red light district (Blake was getting all excited at the attractive ladies in their glass windows calling him in). More markets and more drinking finished up Berlin before moving on to our last stop, Hamburg.

Hamburg
Hamburg was our favourite city and Christmas markets across all of Germany. It was a magical wonderland and had a real winter fairytale vibe. We also toured the port canals on a boat and explored the city afoot.
